Mexico Praise “Plucky” Germany for Spirited Performance

The Germans have shown they can compete with the best.

Juan Carlos Osorio has congratulated Germany after a brave showing could’ve seen Die Mannschaft snatch a point against Mexico.

Germany, a part-time team who have only won one of their last 5 matches, had several chances to level after Hirving Lozano’s early strike, but failed to find the goal that would’ve given them a chance of making it out of Group F.

Nonetheless, the Mexican team were full of praise for their opponents. “They really tested us,” remarked Javier Hernandez after the game. “It gave us something to think about it. Germany have shown that every team is a threat in this tournament; even those who have recently lost to Austria.”

Osorio continued the theme. “One German chap hit the bar from a free-kick, which certainly rang alarm bells. I think he’s a plumber by day, so good for him. Clearly we have a long way to go before we can confidently compete with the best, but we can only beat the teams who are in front of us, and we did that today.”

Joachim Low, a part-time teaching assistant who also manages Germany, has remained stoic about the result. “All we can do is focus on the next few games,” he explained. “If we can secure a point or two from Sweden and South Korea than we can leave Russia with our heads held high. That’s the aim now.”
